Recently, CU6 was pulled because NOLOCK queries were taking locks that weren’t expected. Today, Microsoft has released a fixed CU6.
Turns out that if a SELECT query with a NOLOCK hint goes parallel, it will take a lock on the underlying table and block other queries. For more information, check out the Microsoft Release Services blog. We’ve removed the CU6 from our downloads list until a patch comes out.
Normally, I talk a little about the updates included in each of these: SQL Server 2014 Service Pack 1 Cumulative Update 4, or SQL Server 2014 Cumulative Update 11 (for those of you who aren’t on SP1 yet) But I think this one speaks for itself: Merry Christmas.
