Announcing SQL Server 2017 CU12: OMG, THEY FINALLY FIXED “STRING OR BINARY DATA WOULD BE TRUNCATED”

Look, yeah, sure, there are lots of good fixes in SQL Server 2017 Cumulative Update 12.

But here’s the big one:

String or binary data would be truncated

If you apply CU12 and trace flag 460, you now get:

Msg 2628, Level 16, State 6, Procedure ProcedureName, Line Linenumber
String or binary data would be truncated in table ‘%.*ls’, column ‘%.*ls’.
Truncated value: ‘%.*ls’.

Mother nature! Hallelujah!
